Mentoring

Everyone has had that one person who has been there for them, listened to them, and pushed them to be the best. They might not have an official title but all of them had something in common – they were your mentors. Here in Upward Bound we believe that our students should have at least one mentor when entering the program. There are many benefits of mentoring for both the mentor and the mentee.

Some of the benefits of mentoring for mentees are:

  • Better attitude about school
  • Stronger relationships
  • Higher college enrollment rates and higher educational aspirations
  • Sense of belonging within the program

Some of the benefits of mentoring for mentors are:

  • Sense of accomplishment
  • Increased and improved supervisory skills
  • Sense of giving back

During the spring semester our new students will each be assigned a mentor. Students and mentors are expected to meet face-to-face at least twice a month, but they must communicate every week. Our mentors are really looking forward to meeting our new students and creating relationships with them. Following are some of the mentors that we have hired for the 2018 spring semester.
